initiostar - a sales and marketing consultancy for software and technology companies

Founded by Gary Lowrey in January 2002, initiostar has worked with eighteen different software and technology businesses. Our work has centred around business development, acquisition, post-acquisition integration and exit. initiostar clients have included start-ups, publicly quoted, privately owned and private equity led businesses.

Cyber3D - the beginning

initiostar began its journey back in 2002 with its first start-up. A small team of digital enthusiasts from around world came together to work on an emerging technology, Adobe Atmosphere. Pioneered by Adobe, as an interactive 3D online platform, it created the opportunity to become at ‘Avatar’ and to meet online in virtual worlds. It was to become the beginning of 3D interactive games. initiostar created start-up Cyber3D in partnership with Adobe and became instrumental in the product’s development and marketing. A year later, Cyber3D won London’s 2003 Business Startup of the Year. Two years on, the company achieved an exit for its founders.

The Millennium Years

initiostar focused on software in the Banking, Leasing and Insurance sectors. The company undertook three major business development roles. The first engagement involved leading a banking team for major UK software house (until its acquisition); the second engagement saw initiostar managing post-integration for a NASDAQ listed company (that had made a UK acquisition) and the third, saw initiostar help transition a UK software company through to its acquisition by a larger European business. These companies have long since disappeared into their larger parents, along with several other fledgeling start-ups and legacy businesses for whom initiostar worked.

The Return of the Digital

In 2010, initiostar had the opportunity to acquire a small business maintaining LED Displays. That business had also developed software to manage the display of real-time data using Reuters and Bloomberg data feeds. The acquisition brought initiostar full circle back to its digital roots. OmniTicker has since been significantly developed and OmniDisplay has been built from the ground up. Today, initiostar is purely focused on the development, marketing and support of OmniDisplay and OmniTicker. 2020 marked the 10th Anniversary of this ‘new’ venture - here’s to the next.

Gary Lowrey - Founder Initiostar

Now a tech-veteran with 44 years in the software and technology space, Gary attained a Computer Science and Mathematics degree (University of London) back in ‘76 from the University of London. He led the European launch of NCR’s first PC; established Wang Labs European Financial Services applications portfolio; led Worldwide Marketing for Fujitsu/ICL UNIX business; helped quadruple Oracle UK Financial Services business; established Misys in India and South Asia in the late 90s and closed out corporate life as Sales and Marketing Director, Rebus Insurance Systems (prior to its acquisition). In 2002 founded initiostar as a technology sales and marketing advisory business - a new chapter began. Ab initio is a Latin term meaning "from the beginning" and is derived from the Latin ab ("from") + initio, ablative singular of initium ("beginning"). We just added “star” and “initiostar” took flight in 2002.
